Vibe coding
Japanese バイブコーディング
Vibe coding means telling an AI in plain words what to build and letting it write the code, while you barely read the code and only check whether it runs. It is quick for prototypes, but a person should check the result before it goes public.
Vibe coding means asking an AI in everyday words, such as "make me a screen like this", and letting it write the code, while you do not read the code and only check whether it runs. The term spread after Andrej Karpathy, a co-founder of OpenAI, wrote on social media in February 2025 about a new kind of coding where you "fully give in to the vibes" and forget that the code even exists. It is like ordering from a cook by voice without ever reading the recipe. He said it is not too bad for throwaway weekend projects, and the Merriam-Webster dictionary explains it as writing code in a somewhat careless fashion, with AI assistance.
Watch out An app that runs is not the same as an app that is safe. Nobody read the code, so nobody knows where the holes are. Start with small tools used only inside your company, and have someone who knows the field check anything that handles customer data or goes public before it is released. Keep the code and files you made in your own hands so you can carry on even if you change tools.
