AI slop (mass-produced low-quality AI content)

Japanese AIスロップ(大量生産された低品質なAIコンテンツ)

AI slop is a dismissive name for low-quality content made quickly and in bulk with generative AI, often thin and repetitive. Platforms such as YouTube do not let this kind of content earn money.

AI slop is a name for text, images and videos churned out with generative AI that are shallow and look much like one another. The English word slop originally means watery food scraps, so the term is meant to sound dismissive. Australia's Macquarie Dictionary defines AI slop as low-quality content created by generative AI, often containing errors and not requested by the user, and chose it as its Word of the Year for 2025. Think of identical flyers printed from the same template, piling up in a mailbox.

Watch out Using AI does not by itself make something slop. YouTube states that AI-generated content made with generic or unoriginal templates, giving the impression of mass production, cannot earn money on the platform. When you use AI to make posts or videos for your shop, have a person check the facts and add your own photos and details that only your shop can offer.
